SALEM, VA--Despite getting swept in its final Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season double-header on Saturday, the Roanoke College baseball team qualified for its first ever ODAC postseason season tournament, slipping as the number-six seed. The Maroons qualified for the tournament thanks to Eastern Mennonite and Guilford College splitting a double-header on Saturday. The Maroons will enter the tournament with a 16-18 overall record and will play the top-seeded Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College. The Maroons lost Bridgewater College 4-3 and 15-1 on Saturday in Bridgewater, VA.
The Maroons will play Virginia Wesleyan at 11:00 on Thursday, April 29th at Lynchburg City Stadium in Lynchburg, VA. The Marlins, who swept the Maroons in a double-header in Virginia Beach, VA during the regular season, earned the top seed in the tournament by winning one of two games against Lynchburg College on Saturday. The other teams in the tournament will be second seed Lynchburg, third seed Bridgewater, fourth seed Hampden-Sydney, and fifth seeded Washington & Lee. The tournament is a double-elimination format and runs through Sunday afternoon in Lynchburg, VA.
The Maroons are in their second season of ODAC play, finishing the season with a 7-11 overall conference record. The team won just one league game last season and this year also set a team-record for overall victories. The team is also in just its third season of varsity play since rejoining the intercollgiate ranks in 2002.
