MAROONS ROLL PAST GUILFORD COLLEGE, 25-3

SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team had little problem with Guilford College, beating the Quakers 25-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Salem, VA. The Maroons improve to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Guilford falls to 4-7 and 2-5 in the league.

The Maroons opened with the first four goals of the game, those coming in the first six minutes. Carrie Smith (Charlottesville, VA/Monticello) opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game. Smith and junior Meaghan Cromwell (Alexandria, VA/Mt. Vernon) each had two goals in the first six minutes. After Guilford's Brenna Powers brought the Quakers to within three goals, the Maroons closed the half with 10 straight goals. The combo of Cromwell and Cindy Hamblen (Vienna, VA/Madison) hooked up for four goals in the first half, three coming in the 10-0 run. On those goals alone, Cromwell and Hamblen each had two goals and two assists. In all, Cromwell assisted on four consecutive Maroon goals in the first half. With Smith, Cromwell, and Hamblen scoring nine goals in the first half, the Maroons also got scores from Mary Stewart Malone (Fairfax Station, VA/St. Stephen's-St. Agnes), Cantey Bailey (Crofton, MD/South River), and Sarah Dawson (Suffolk, VA/Norfolk).

Leading 14-1 at the half, the Maroons outscored the Quakers 9-2 in the second half to take the 25-3 victory. Megan Hinners (Amherst, NH/Souhegan), Chelsea Rankin (Columbus, OH/Thomas Worthington), Ann Lutz (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Davidson), and Dara Lundregan (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) all had second half goals for the Maroons.

Cromwell finished the game with three goals and five assists for the Maroons, while Hamblen totaled six points on four goals and two assists. Smith finished with a game-high five goals, while Dawson ended with three goals and an assist.

The Maroons are back in action on Friday afternoon in a road game at 2003 ODAC champion Washington & Lee University. The game in Lexington, VA begins at 4:00pm.
