Roanoke Men's Soccer falls to Berry in a close match

Salem, Va. - The Roanoke College men's soccer team battled Berry in a tight contest Monday, falling 1-0 on a first-half penalty kick.

How It Happened  

  • In the 23rd minute, Roanoke committed a foul in the 18-yard box that led to a penalty given to Berry, converted by Sam Carlson.  

  • Ed Law prevented Berry from doubling the lead by clearing a ball off the goal line in the second half.  

  • The Maroons ramped up their offense in the second half with eight shots.  

Notes and Notables  

  • Berry goalkeeper Cooper Cherry recorded two saves, while Roanoke's Denzel Marufu registered one save in the contest.  

  • Eleven different players recorded a shot for the Maroons; Justin Hill was the only one with multiple shots.  

  • Roanoke had the advantage in shots, 12-9.

Roanoke will travel to Tennessee on Saturday (Sept. 12) to face Sewanee in a non-conference match. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
