Maroon softball takes one of two vs. William Peace

The Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 4, William Peace 3; William Peace 5, Roanoke 2  
Location: Salem, Va. – Moyer Complex

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon against William Peace University, taking the first contest 4-3 but dropping the nightcap 5-2.  

How it happened (Game 1):
*
The Maroons took advantage of a Charlotte Gale triple and a Carsyn Michaels double to take a 2-0 lead in the first.
*Riley Shupe doubled in a run in the fifth and scored on a Gale single to make it 4-0 RC.     
*The Pacers rallied for three runs in the sixth but Mackenzie Samuel got out of the jam and recorded the final five outs for the save.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Claire Warden notched her third win of the season, scattering four hits and two walks over her five innings.
*Heather McQueeney was 1-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base.  

How it happened (Game 2):
*
Roanoke plated two in the fourth, aided by two Pacer errors. WPU countered with two in the top of the fifth and three in the top of the sixth.   

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
Ava Williams was 2-4 and Talia Hawa doubled.
*Gale went 1-2 with two walks.  
*
Grace Clary tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
*Isabelle Olson was 2-4 with two RBI for William Peace (15-15).
 
Up Next:
*RC (12-14) hosts Sweet Briar College Saturday at 1 p.m. in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader. The program's three seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony and it is also Alumni Appreciation Day.
