RC Softball sweeps Sweet Briar on Senior Day

The Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 5, Sweet Briar 3, Roanoke 10, Sweet Briar 0 (5 inn.)
Location: Salem, Va. – Moyer Complex

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team took both ends of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Saturday against visiting Sweet Briar College, 5-3 and 10-0 in five innings. The program's three seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony.

The Maroon defense came up big, with no errors in the 12 innings of play.

How it happened (Game 1):
*
After RC went ahead 1-0 in the first, the Vixens took the lead with two in the top of the second.
*Ava Colontrelle tied the game in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly.
*Roanoke took a 4-2 lead with two runs in the fourth, the second scoring on a Heather McQueeney single.
*Erin Gorschboth provided an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*McQueeney finished game one 3-3 with three stolen bases.
*Gorschboth had two hits and Charlotte Gale walked three times.
*Molly Houchins had a hit and a walk.
*Mackenzie Samuel earned the win, tossing four innings and Grace Clary picked up the save.

How it happened (Game 2):
*
Roanoke jumped out early, scoring three runs each in the first and second frames and added four in the fourth.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
Baylee Compton earned the complete-game shutout victory in the circle, allowing just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.
*Colontrelle was 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI.
*Riley Shupe and Carsyn Michaels each went 2-2 with a stolen base.
*Houchins and Kiran Kapur each had a hit and a walk and Allie Bell doubled.
*Gorschboth scored three times.
 
Up Next:
*The Maroons (14-14/6-6) travel to Randolph College for another ODAC doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.
