Roanoke SB forces split with Averett

The Facts:
Scores: Averett 8, Roanoke 0 (5 inn.), Roanoke 9, Averett 4
Location: Salem, Va. – Moyer Complex

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team dropped the first game of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Tuesday against Averett University, but rallied for a 9-4 win in game two.

How it happened (Game 1):

The Cougars scored three each in the first and fourth innings.   

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Roanoke left eight runners on base, compared to four for AU.
*Hannah Zabik tossed a complete-game shutout for Averett.

How it happened (Game 2):
*
Averett went ahead 3-0 in the second and 4-2 in the third but a seven-run Maroon third inning was the difference. Charotte Gale's two-run double capped the scoring in the frame.   

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
Gale had three hits and Ava Colontrelle walked three times.
*Heather McQueeney was 2-3 with a triple, two RBI and a walk.
*Carsyn Michaels was 2-2 with a double and Allie Bell had two hits, including a double.
*Grace Clary nearly went the distance in the circle, tossing 6 2/3 innings and allowing just two earned runs. Cara Barrett came in for the final out with two runners on base in the top of the seventh and forced a ground out.
 
Up Next:
*Roanoke (11-13/4-6) is back in action Wednesday at the Moyer Complex, hosting William Peace University in a pair of non-conference games starting at 2 p.m.
