Maroons advance to semifinals with win over Bridgewater

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team took control late in the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated Bridgewater 22-7 to advance to the ODAC semifinals.

Game Information
No. 3 Roanoke 22, No. 6 Bridgewater 7
Records: Roanoke (10-8, 7-2), Bridgewater (10-9, 4-5)
Location: Salem, Va. (Donald J. Kerr Stadium)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater scored first on an early player-up opportunity and were able to keep the Maroons off the scoreboard for the better part of the first quarter. After a Lillie Parsons goal broke the scoreless streak with less than seven minutes left, RC was off to the races, making it 6-1 by the end of the quarter.

  • Roanoke kept it rolling for the rest of the game, never allowing Bridgewater a chance to get back into the contest.

Notes and Notables

  • Maddie McDonald led in goals and points with seven on the evening. The junior becomes the first player since 2011 to surpass 80 goals in a season.

  • McDonald also reached the 200-point milestone in the game, becoming the 12th Maroon to do so. The milestone also means that she is the second person in program history to total 200 career points and 200 career draw controls. Darragh Evarts '15 is the only other player to accomplish the feat as she eclipsed 300 in both categories.

  • McDonald also led the squad in draw controls with eight.

  • Sydney Winpigler tied her career high in points after setting it last week against Shenandoah. The sophomore posted six points on three goals and three assists.

  • Regan Tharaldson had her first career hat trick as she posted three points in the contest.

  • In her first career start for RC, sophomore goaltender Maddi Barnhorst got her first collegiate win. She made six saves in the game.
