Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse dominates Shenandoah to secure No.3 seed in ODAC playoffs

SALEM, Va. - Career days from Maddie McDonald and Sydney Winpigler in tandem with lock down defensive play helped the Roanoke College women's lacrosse team earn a commanding 16-5 win over the Shenandoah Hornets.

Game Information
Roanoke 16, Shenandoah 5
Records: Roanoke (9-8, 6-2), Shenandoah (10-7, 5-3)
Location: Salem, Va. (Donald J. Kerr Stadium)

How It Happened

  • RC picked up right where they left off on Sunday as they won the first three draw controls and turned them into goals to go up 3-0. Shenandoah found a repsonse in the final four minutes of the first to make it a one goal contest.

  • The Maroons didn't panic however and instead went a nine-goal run across the second and third quarters. SU scored with 50 seconds left in the third to make it 13-4 going into the final 15 minutes.

  • While Roanoke had done the majority of the work already, they kept pushing in the fourth, outscoring the Hornets 4-3 to bring the score to its final.

Notes and Notables

  • After setting a new career single game point total on Sunday, Maddie McDonald did so again, posting 10 points on six goals and four assists. The mark ties for eighth in the program record book in single game points.

  • With her six goals, McDonald now sits at 163 career goals, surpassing Grace Koutouzis '25 and putting her eighth in the record books. She also moved into 12th in career points with 193 so far, taking over the spot previously held by Libby Bowman '24.

  • Additionally, McDonald  became the first player since Lilly Blair did so in 2022 to reach the 70-goal mark in a single season. Prior to Blair, the feat had not been accomplished since 2014.

  • Sydney Winpigler also had herself a career night, tallying six points on five goals and an assist for new career marks in goals and points.

  • Sarah Brisson was the other Maroon to register multiple points, doing so on a goal and an assist.

  • Fergusson led the squad in both ground balls and caused turnovers with four and three respectively.

  • McDonald had five draw controls but was followed closely by Jordan Wheeler who had four.

  • Kendall Todd played lights out in the second half, recording nine of her 10 saves in the final 30 minutes to keep Shenandoah's comeback attempts at bay.

Up Next
The Maroons are set to take on the ODAC playoffs after earning the No. 3 seed. The squad will await the winner of No. 6 Bridgewater/No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan to determine who they will face on Apr. 28 in Salem. The time of that game is still to be determined.
