The Short story: Junior
Haleigh Vaughan went 6-6 on the day as the Roanoke College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with Guilford College Tuesday.
How it happened (Game 1):
*Guilford went ahead 4-1 early, but a five-run Maroon second inning tilted the score to 6-4 in favor of RC.
Charlotte Gale hit a three-run double in the inning.
*The Quakers went back ahead 9-7 in the fifth.
*Roanoke again retook the lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, two on a Vaughan double.
*After a GC run in the top of the seventh to tie the score 10-10,
Erin Gorschboth led off with a single and scored on an
Ava Colontrelle fielder's choice to win the game. Â
Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*The Maroons survived seven errors to pick up the win.
*Vaughan went 3-3 with a walk and
Carsyn Michaels was 3-4.
*Gorschboth, Gale and
Molly Houchins each had two hits and
Riley Shupe scored three times.
*Kalissa Williams was 5-5 with five RBI for Guilford. Â Â
How it happened (Game 2):
*Roanoke took a 2-0 lead in the first and after each team plated a run in the second, the Quakers went ahead 5-3 after a four-run third.
*GC took a 6-3 lead but Gorschboth lashed a two-run single in the fourth to cut the edge to 6-5.
*The Maroons had two runners on in the sixth and one in the seventh but couldn't bring the tying or winning runs home

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Vaughan was 3-3 again in the nightcap and Shupe went 3-4 with a double.
*Gorschboth was 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
*
Claire Warden allowed just one earned run in her 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
*Six Quakers (16-21-1/6-12 ODAC) had two hits apiece.
