Big eighth inning leads RC to victory over Guilford

RADFORD, Va. - Nate PrinceMichael Hetzel, and Danny Ferguson combined for 12 hits and nine RBIs to lead the Roanoke College baseball team to a 12-7 victory over Guilford.

How It Happened 

  • Guilford struck first with a trio of runs in the bottom of the first. 

  • Roanoke cut the advantage down to one in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs. 

  • The sides went back and forth through the next five innings until their were knotted at six. 

  • The Maroons tagged GC in the eighth for six runs, distancing themselves with a three-run Michael Hetzel home run. 

  • While Guilford homered in the ninth, RC had done enough to keep their offense at bay. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Michael Hetzel went 5-5 on the day with two home runs for five RBIs. He set a new career high hit total and tied his career mark in RBIs in the game. 

  • It was also the first multi-homer game of Hetzel's career. 

  • Nate Prince went 4-5 on the day and drove in two runs. 

  • Danny Ferguson went 3-3 as he drove in two runs, accounted for two runs, and posted a walk. 

  • Liam Murphy was the other Maroon to drive in multiple RBIs with two in the contest. 

  • Kyle Tyrell also tallied a pair of hits, had three runs, and a walk. 

  • After Hayden Giordano went five innings, Ryan Wallace came in to finish out the game and earn his second win of the season. Wallace sturck out three in his outing.

Roanoke is right back at it tomorrow (Apr. 21) to finish their non-conference slate against Pfeiffer at 4:00 pm.
