The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at Bridgewater College Saturday to push the Maroons win streak to six games.
How it happened (Game 1):
*Roanoke forged ahead 3-0 with three runs in the third, two scoring on a
Charlotte Gale sacrifice fly.
Ava Colontrelle singled in the third run.
*Colontrelle and Gale were big parts of the Maroon two-run seventh inning. Colontrelle singled home the first run and Gale reached base after being hit by a pitch and scored on a passed ball.
Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*
Baylee Compton threw a complete-game shutout in the circle, scattering four hits and three walks with two strikeouts to move her record to 8-6.
*Colontrelle was 3-4 in the first game and
Riley Shupe had a hit and two walks.
How it happened (Game 2):
*The Maroons again got ahead early in game two, plating four in the third frame.
Allie Bell blasted a three-run home run to left center, the first longball of her collegiate career.
*The Eagles rallied with two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to force extra innings. The Maroons took advantage of four Eagle errors in the top of the eighth to go ahead 7-4 and held on for the 7-5 win.
Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Carsyn Michaels and Bell each had two hits, Bell's second basehit was a double.
*
Grace Clary threw 5 1/3 solid innings as the starter and gave way to
Camryn Perkins in the sixth. Perkins earned the win and allowed one earned run over 2 2/3 frames.
*Andrea Savage had three hits for Bridgewater (23-13/10-8 ODAC).
