Maroon SB sweeps Pitt-Bradford to push win streak to five

The Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 9, Eastern Mennonite 1 (5 inn.); Roanoke 14, Pitt-Bradford 6 (5 inn.)
Location: Salem, Va. – Moyer Complex

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team needed just 10 innings Saturday to sweep Pitt-Bradford in a non-conference doubleheader, taking the first 9-1 and the second 14-6 – each in five innings.

How it happened (Game 1):
*
The Maroons exploded for nine runs in the second inning, sending 14 batters to the plate.  

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Five Maroons notched two hits - Riley Shupe, Molly Houchins, Charlotte Gale, Carsyn Michaels and Allie Bell.
*Ava Colontrelle ripped a three-run double in the second.
*Baylee Compton earned the complete-game victory, allowing just one earned run and two hits and no walks with nine strikeouts.   

How it happened (Game 2):
*
The Maroons fell behind 5-2 in the second but scored four in the second and five in the third to pull away.  

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
Gale went 4-4 in game two with a double and three RBI.
*Colontrelle was 3-4 with two doubles.
*Shupe had two hits and Heather McQueeney reached base three times and scored twice.
*Grace Clary got the win in relief, tossing 3 1/3 innings with no earned runs allowed.    
 
Up Next:
*The Maroons (9-7) travel to the University of Lynchburg Sunday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
