Roanoke softball sweeps EMU in ODAC Doubleheader

The Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 11, Eastern Mennonite 5; Roanoke 11, EMU 1 (5 inn.)
Location: Harrisonburg, Va. – Gehman Field

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team pounded out 22 runs and 25 hits Saturday in a doubleheader sweep of Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

How it happened (Game 1):
*
The Maroons scored three runs each in the third, fourth and sixth frames and made the score 11-3 with a two-run seventh inning.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Allie Bell had a team-high three hits.
*The first five batters in the Maroon order each had two basehits; Heather McQueeney, Riley Shupe, Molly Houchins, Ava Colontrelle and Charlotte Gale.
*Colontrelle blasted a pair of home runs and drove in five.
*Houchins had two doubles and three RBI and Shupe scored three times and stole two bases.
*Gale also walked twice, reaching base safely in all four of her plate appearances.  

How it happened (Game 2):
*
After plating a single run in the first and second innings, the Maroons broke the game open with six runs in the third.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
Shupe drilled a home run and also drew a walk.
*Colontrelle was 2-2 with a double and a walk.
*McQueeney went 2-3 with two RBI.
*Carsyn Michaels was 2-2.
*Claire Warden finished what she started in the circle, allowing just three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
 
Up Next:
*The Maroons (7-7/2-0) host the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
