Roanoke rises above Hollins 66-57 in midweek matchup

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball team put together an all-around team performance as they took down Hollins, 66-57 in conference play.

How It Happened 

  • The Maroons were rolling to start the game, outscoring Hollins 16-8 in the first quarter. 

  • Hollins chipped away at the deficit in the second quarter, but RC maintained their lead, going into the half at 25-22. 

  • It was back and forth to start the second half. In the final five minutes of the quarter, Roanoke outscored HU 8-2 to widen their lead to six points. 

  • Both sides were hitting hard in the fourth with Hollins shooting over 60% and the Maroons hitting 50% but RC went 8-12 at the free throw line to secure the 66-57 victory. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Nadia Snesarev and Ashley Fowler led the offensive charge with 13 points each. Snesarev went 6-10 on the night while Fowler was 3-4 from three. 

  • Alicea Farmer also hit double figures, recording 11 points on the night. She went 5-8 from the field during the game. 

  • Cain also went 5-6 from the free throw line, all of which were in the fourth quarter. 

  • Fowler and Farmer led the way on the boards with six rebounds each. Snesarev and Cecilia Robinson were next up in the category with four rebounds apiece. 

  • Snesarev and Farmer were spreading the wealth as well, dishing out six assists each. The pair also recorded all five RC blocks on the night with Farmer stopping three and Snesarev stuffing two. 

  • Cain and Farmer led in steals as they both tallied three in the contest.

The Maroons are on the road this Saturday as they travel to Eastern Mennonite for a 4:30 pm ODAC matchup.
