The Short story: Case Western Reserve University defeated the Roanoke College softball team 4-1 Friday in the first of four games this weekend at Catholic University.
Case Western finished the 2025 season 30-12 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
How it happened:
*Roanoke starter
Baylee Compton had a no-hitter through three innings, but Case Western scored three runs in the fourth frame.
*
Francesca Buda and
Heather McQueeney walked in the fifth inning with one out, and Buda scored on a
Riley Shupe single.
*The Maroons loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth, but the Spartans got out of the jam on a groundout.
Inside the numbers:
*Molly Houchins had two hits, including a double.
*Compton struck out seven in her 3 2/3 innings.
Grace Clary allowed just one unearned run in 2 1/3 frames in the circle.
*Camryn Mclelland scattered six walks and three hits over six innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win for CWRU (2-0).
