RC completes four game series sweep on Sunday

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team completed the weekend sweep of Alfred State as they earned another pair of wins on Saturday. 
 
Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 4, Alfred State 1 (7 inn.) 
Records: Roanoke (4-0, 0-0), Alfred State (0-7, 0-0) 
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem-Memorial Ballpark) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • Roanoke opened the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a Michael Hetzel double. The Pioneers cut the lead in half in the second, but RC added a run in both the third and fifth innings to get the win. 

  • Riley Fitzgerald got his first win as a Maroon, going five innings and striking out four. 

  • Freshman Clark Mileto also grabbed his first career save after throwing two innings and allowing just one hit.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • In the most back and forth game of the weekend, Alfred State started off the scoring with a pair of tallies in the first before RC answered right back in the second. The teams continued to exchange runs until the sixth inning when the Maroons put up three runs to gain the upper hand for good. 

  • Jones, Olivera, and Jack Fehlner also were driven in twice. 

  • Freshman Will Emerson earned his first career win after pitching two innings of one run ball to close out the game. He also recorded his first career strikeout in the outing. 

  • Junior Palmer Griffin also put in a solid outing on the mound, striking out three in 1.2 innings and not allowing a run.

RC is scheduled to take on Greensboro at Salem-Memorial Ballpark on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at 1:00 pm.
