Brooks becomes program saves leader as RC takes two from Alfred State

SALEM, Va. - Senior Isaac Brooks became Roanoke College baseball's all-time saves leader as the squad picked up two wins over Alfred State on Saturday. 
 
Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 3, Alfred State 2 (7 inn.) 
Records: Roanoke (2-0, 0-0), Alfred State (0-5, 0-0) 
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem-Memorial Ballpark) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • RC struck first, tallying a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Alfred State answered back with one in the third and one in the fifth. Roanoke responded in the fifth to pick up the win. 

  • Thomas Burgess picked up his first win on the mound of the season. The senior put in five innings of work and allowed just one earned run while striking out four. 

  • Trevor Orth got the save after pitching two innings. He struck out two and allowed just one hit in his outing. 

Game 2 Information 
Roanoke 20, Alfred State 5 (7 inn.) 
Records: Roanoke (3-0, 0-0), Alfred State (0-6, 0-0) 

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • The Maroons pounced early, putting up five in the first after giving up one in the top of the inning. Alfred State then drew it back to within two before RC added five more in the third and fourth innings. The Pioneers tried to make a push in the sixth and seventh innings but Roanoke's 10 run dagger of a sixth inning secured their thrid win of the season. 

  • Senior Isaac Brooks grabbed his first save of the season after going the final three innings and striking out two. The save is the 11th of his career and makes him RC's all-time saves leader. 

  • Orozco and his fellow freshman Timothy Hootselle had three hits each and combined for seven runs. One of Orozco's hits was his first career home run.

  • Junior Chase Booth picked up his first career win as a Maroon after pitching four innings. He struck out five and allowed just four hits in his outing.

The Maroons return to the park tomorrow to round out this four game series against Alfred State with an 11am doubleheader.
