Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Maroons lock it down in the fourth to secure 64-60 victory

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball team came up big in the fourth quarter to take a 64-60 victory over Lynchburg in their last road game of the regular season.

Game Information
Roanoke 64, Lynchburg 60
Records: Roanoke (12-12, 6-9), Lynchburg (12-12, 5-10)
Location: Salem, Va. (Cregger Center)

How It Happened

  • The squads exchanged leads multiple times in the first quarter as it was just a one-point game for most of the opening 10 minutes. Lynchburg broke that trend with just a few seconds left though to go up 13-10 before the end of the period.

  • The Hornets tried to extend their advantage but RC was able to tie it all up at 22 thanks to a Nadia Snesarev three and four straight points from Abigail Rice. Lynchburg had the better of the last three minutes, however, to take a 28-23 lead into halftime.

  • Roanoke made up ground early, tallying the first four points of the second half and kept pushing through the third quarter. They finally regained the lead on an Ashley Fowler jumper with just over a minute to go but were down by one by the end of the third at 42-41.

  • Freshman Moriah Tate made the fourth quarter her own, scoring nine points in the period. That combined with a handful of big three pointers from Rice and Snesarev as well as clutch free throw makes from Fowler and Alicea Farmer helped RC gain the edge and secure the victory.

Notes and Notables

  • Roanoke shot 85.7% in the fourth quarter, only missing one three-pointer, and made 7-8 of their free throws.

  • In her first career start, Moriah Tate tallied a new career high of 14 points to pace the squad.

  • Abigail Rice posted 13 points in the game, going 5-6 from the field which included two big threes in the fourth.

  • Alicea Farmer grabbed her fourth double-double of the year, posting 12 points and a team leading 11 rebounds. She also added two steals and two blocks on the defensive side.

  • Tate also added a new career high in rebounds with seven.

  • Fowler led the way in helpers with four assists in the contest. She also went a perfect 4-4 from the foul line.
