The Short story: The Roanoke College men's basketball team survived a tough challenge from the University of Lynchburg Wednesday night, outlasting the Hornets 93-88 in overtime in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
With the win, Roanoke clinches at least the No. 3 seed in the ODAC Tournament next week and a quarterfinal-round home game Tuesday in the Cregger Center.
How it happened:
*Both teams had big runs in the first half, Lynchburg went ahead 31-19 with 6:42 left after a 17-3 surge. Roanoke countered with a 16-3 run and went into halftime ahead 42-40.
*Neither team forged more than a four-point lead in the second half until the Hornets went ahead 77-72 with 3:04 on the game clock.

Caleb Franze and
Patrick Clevenger drilled three-point shots to give RC a one-point edge. Clevenger hit four free throws down the stretch to push the Maroon lead to 82-79 with 16 seconds remaining. Michael Gray banked in the tying three-pointer from the top of the key to tie the contest and Roanoke couldn't convert on a chance to win in regulation.
*The Maroon defense allowed just one basket in the first four minutes of OT and
Jackson Bell took over, scoring nine points in the extra session.
Inside the numbers:
*Bell finished with a game-high 22 points to go with six rebounds.
*Clevenger recorded his second double double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
*Franze delivered 19 points and six assists, drilling five three pointers.
*
Marcus Morgan handed out a career-high 13 assists and grabbed eight rebounds with five points.
*
Gavin O'Malley had 11 points and five boards.
*Jesse Mitchell led Lynchburg (14-10/9-6 ODAC) with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
