Baseball opens 2026 campaign with 16-0 victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Roanoke College baseball team exploded offensively to take a 16-0 opening day victory over Greensboro.

How It Happened 

  • The Maroons hopped on Greensboro early, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. 

  • RC then added three more in the fourth and six in the sixth to put the game out of reach and put the seven inning, 10 run rule into effect. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Freshman Nicholas Mavroudis got the win on the mound, the first of his career. He pitched 3.2 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while striking out one. 

  • Senior Thomas Burgess was one shy of his career high in strikeouts with six in just three innings pitched. 

  • Dylan Bonzon racked up a team high four hits on the evening, coming up one shy of his career high. Olivera and Prince each had three hits to back up Bonzon. 

  • Prince also led in runs scored with three. 

  • Every player in Roanoke's starting lineup recorded at least one hit and one run in the contest. 

  • Hetzel, Olivera, Pence, Mavroudis and Noah Donaho each made the first appearance of their careers as a Maroon in the game. 

Up Next 
RC is slated to open up their home season this weekend (Feb. 21 & 22) with four games against Alfred State. Both double headers on Saturday and Sunday are set for an 11:00 am first pitch.
