The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team opened the 2026 season Saturday at Greensboro College, but fell in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader. Â Â
How it happened (Game 1):

Ava Colontrelle doubled home
Heather McQueeney in the first to give the Maroons an early 1-0 lead.
*After a Greensboro run in the second, RC took the lead again in the third. McQueeney singled, stole second and scored on a
Carsyn Michaels double.
*The Pride scored twice in the sixth to go ahead and held on for the win.
Inside the numbers (Game 1):

Baylee Compton threw 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight.
*McQueeney had two hits and scored twice. Â
How it happened (Game 2):
*The Pride opened a 1-0 lead in the third but RC manufactured a run in the fourth to tie the game.
*Greensboro struck for two in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
*The Maroons threatened in the top of the seventh, putting two runners on with one out, but GC pitchers induced two groundouts to end the contest. Â
Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*Claire Warden started in the circle and allowed two earned runs over four innings with three strikeouts.
Grace Clary worked two scoreless innings in relief.
*McQueeney again had two hits, going 4-8 on the day.
