The Short story: Despite a career high 35 points from junior guard
Jackson Bell Wednesday, Guilford College defeated the Roanoke College men's basketball team 89-85 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
Braylen Salters scored 33 points for the Quakers, hitting 14-of-16 from the free throw line.
How it happened:
*Guilford used 11-2 and 10-0 runs in the first half to take a 35-33 edge into halftime.
*The Quakers led 75-68 with 6:44 left in the game but a 7-0 Maroon run, with four points from
Gavin O'Malley, tied it at 75.
*Roanoke's
Tyler Barnes scored with 1:37 left to tie the game at 81 all, but Guilford scored on the other end and Salters sealed the game with four from the free-throw line.
Inside the numbers:
*Bell broke the 30-point barrier for the third time this season and snapped his previous career high of 31 set last month at Lynchburg. He hit 12 of his 21 shots, was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line, and grabbed five rebounds.
*O'Malley just missed a double double with 18 points and nine rebounds, seven on the offensive end.

Ryan Truitt had seven points, seven assists and two steals while
Marcus Morgan posted five points, eight rebounds and three steals before fouling out.

Zach Rosenthal drilled three three-pointers for nine points and
Caleb Franze had six points and five rebounds.
*Ke Edwards produced 25 points and nine rebounds for the Quakers (12-10/6-7 ODAC).
