Maroons edged out in ODAC play by Randolph-Macon

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's basketball team had three players hit double digit scoring but were edged out by Randolph-Macon on the road.

How It Happened 

  • It was tightly contested in the first quarter as the squads went punch for punch, but RMC got the last say to make it 18-17 through the first 10 minutes. 

  • The RC offense quieted in the second quarter leading to Randolph-Macon extending it to an eight-point lead. The score was 34-26 at the half. 

  • The Maroons got it going in the third though, shooting 66% and draining five free throws to outscore RMC 27-23 and cut the deficit in half. 

  • The fourth was another closely contested quarter, but it saw the Yellow Jackets earn a slight advantage to hold off any comeback attempts from Roanoke. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Ashley Fowler found herself in double digit points for the 13th time this season, tallying 19 on the night. The junior was one of three players to break double figures on the evening. 

  • The trio also accounted for 12 of RC's 15 points from the free throw line with Farmer going 6-6 while Fowler and Breuer added three extra points each. 

  • Mariah Cain led the way in rebounds, grabbing six boards. She also added nine points as she went 4-5 on the night. 

  • Farmer and Laila Staples weren't far behind Cain in rebounds with Farmer recording five and Staples reigning in four. 

  • Nadia Snesarev dished out the most assists in the contest with four helpers.

The Maroons get set for another tough road contest on Wednesday (Jan. 28) as they make the short trip up I-81 to #6 Washington & Lee for a 6:00 pm matchup.
