RC's pair of first quarter goals lifts field hockey to victory

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Roanoke College field hockey team earned their first victory of the 2025 campaign on Sunday after tallying a pair of goals in the first quarter to rise above Concordia Wisconsin.

Roanoke 2, Concordia (Wis.) 0
Records: Roanoke (1-2, 0-0), Concordia (Wis.) (2-1, 0-0)
Location: Washington, Pa. (Cameron Stadium)

How It Happened

  • Just three minutes into the game, the Maroons put in a corner which ended up on the stick of Ashley Mountcastle. She then found a wide-open Elyse Cosgrave who hit a long range shot that found the bottom left corner of the goal.

  • 15 seconds before the end of the first quarter RC was able to double their advantage in the run of play. Sophia Baker sent a ball from the midfield to Cosgrave at the edge of the arc. She then crossed the ball in from the right side to Maddy Holmes who took a one time shot and buried it past the keeper.

Notes and Notables

  • Cosgrave and Ashley Mountcastle each put up their first helpers of the season as well.

  • Maggie Beach led the team in shots with six and put five of those shots on frame.

  • Roanoke allowed just one shot from the Falcons and held the overall shot advantage 18-1.

  • The defense did not allow a penalty corner, giving RC the 13-0 advantage in the category.

  • Chloe Miller earned her first career shutout and win after playing all 60 minutes in goal.

  • Roanoke is now 3-0 all-time against Concordia Wisconsin. They previously beat the Falcons in 2021 and 2017 as well.
