Roanoke Women’s VB bests Methodist and NC Wesleyan

The Match Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 3, Methodist 1 (28-26, 26-24, 12-25, 25-19)
Roanoke 3, NC Wesleyan 2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 15-11)

Location: Salem, Va. (Cregger Center)

The Short story: The Roanoke College women's volleyball team won both of its matches Friday to open the 2025 Maroon Classic, defeating Methodist in four sets and North Carolina Wesleyan in five.

 Inside the numbers (vs. Methodist):
*Ahead two games to one and tied 18-18 in the fourth set, RC won seven of the last eight points to finish off the match. Teagan Hubble delivered service aces in the final two points.
*Sophomore Emma Catoe had a team-best 10 kills and four blocks.
*Sidney Alumbaugh had nine kills and 14 digs while Raygan Wade hit six kills and added nine digs.
*Kaci Morrison and Danica Taylor each finished with seven kills.
*Hubble had 22 digs, six assists and five aces.
*Payten Johnston posted 12 digs and Sydney Branham had five aces.  
*Savannah Hovander led the Monarchs (3-3) with 15 kills and five blocks.

 Inside the numbers (vs. NC Wesleyan):
*Catoe blasted a match-high 24 kills, with only four errors for a .476 hitting percentage.
*Alumbaugh tallied 13 kills and 15 digs and Morrison had nine kills.
*Wade handed out 29 assists and Makenzie Board had 21.
*Hubble recorded 24 digs and Cecelia Bryant had 15.
*Ashley Hinton hit 18 kills for NC Wesleyan (4-1) and Emilee Wilson distributed 50 assists.  

Up Next:
*The Maroons (3-3) wrap up the Classic Saturday with non-conference matches against Brevard (10 a.m.) and Salem N.C. (noon).
