Field hockey taken down in battle with Sewanee

SALEM, Va. - Despite their efforts to overcome an early deficit, the Roanoke College field hockey team was taken down by Sewanee on Saturday.

How It Happened 

  • Sewanee scored within the first four minutes of the first two quarters to give themselves the lead. 

  • Roanoke then found the back of the net off a corner in the second period. Brooke Garcia passed to Corinne Orlando who was able to lift it into the net to cut the deficit in half. 

  • Roanoke had opportunities in the second half to level the score but couldn't quite finish any off. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Katherine Seal was honored pregame as a part of Senior Day for her service to the field hockey program over her four years. 

  • Orlando's goal was her second of the season. 

  • Garcia's helper was the first of her career and earned her the first point of her time as a Maroon. 

  • Orlando, Seal, and Maddy Holmes led in shots with three each. 

  • Kaitlyn Damron registered a defensive save in the third quarter, the first of her career. 

  • Goalkeeper Chloe Miller tied a career high in saves with six in the game.  

  • Roanoke had the advantage in shots, 15-9, and penalty corners, 9-4. 

Up Next 
The Maroons hit the road in the midweek to make the trip to Hood College. That game is set for 6:00 pm on Wednesday (Oct. 1).
