Robertson and Holmes score as Maroons fall in overtime

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Roanoke College field hockey team battled back and tallied two goals in the second half to tie the game against DePauw. However, they ultimately fell in overtime to the Tigers on Sunday.

Game Information
DePauw 3, Roanoke 2 (OT)
Records: DePauw (3-3, 0-0), Roanoke (2-5, 0-0)
Location: Danville, Ky. (South Campus Field)

How It Happened

  • DePauw scored twice in the first period to give the Tigers an early lead.

  • Right after the half, Roanoke capitalized on a corner to cut the deficit in half. Corinne Orlando lifted a ball to the back post that fell to Kaitlyn Robertson who hammered it home.

  • RC then took advantage of another penalty corner early in the fourth quarter to knot the score at two. Elyse Cosgrave found the stick of Katherine Seal who scorched a ball into the middle that Maddy Holmes was able to get a touch on to finish past the keeper.

  • The Tigers, however, got a chance at the beginning of the overtime period that they were able to finish off and earn the sudden victory.

Notes and Notables

  • Robertson's goal was her second of the week and of the year.

  • Orlando had her second helper of the week in the game as she assisted on both of Robertson's goals.

  • Holmes is also up to two goals on the season after her tally today.

  • Seal's assist was her first on the campaign and third of her career.

  • Ellemijn van Wijk was the only other Maroon, apart from the goal scorers, to register a shot.

  • Chloe Miller made five saves in goal for the Maroons in the contest.

Up Next
With the two weekend games, RC doesn't have a mid-week contest on the slate, so their next game is on Saturday (Sep. 27). Field hockey kicks off game one of a triple-header at Kerr Stadium that day when they take on Sewanee at 11:00 am.
