Pidgeon's late goal secures 1-0 victory for men's soccer

SALEM, Va. - The #23 Roanoke College men's soccer team pulled off a dramatic win over William Peace as Ryan Pidgeon tallied the game-winning goal with 38 seconds left to secure a 1-0 victory.

How It Happened 

  • With less than a minute to go in the game, Slate Danforth sent a ball in that ended up falling to the feet of Cameron Viator at the top of the box. Viator then sent a low ball to Ryan Pidgeon who took a touch to turn and found the bottom left corner for the game winner. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Pidgeon's goal was his first of the year and the eighth of his career. It was also the fourth game-winning goal for Pidgeon of his time as a Maroon. 

  • Viator picked up his first helper of the season on the goal. 

  • Pidgeon led the team in shots with three, two of which were on target. Grey Morris and Harrison Kraus were the other two RC players to register multiple shots. 

  • The Maroons are now 2-0 historically against William Peace with the last time these two sides met being a 5-0 win in 2015. 

  • Aidan McHugh played the full 90 minutes between the pipes. He made two saves in the contest.
