CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Roanoke College men's soccer team tallied two first half goals to earn them a 2-1 victory over Washington College to open the 2025 campaign on Friday.

How It Happened 

• Ryan Pidgeon took a shot from outside the 18-yard box that forced a save from the Washington College keeper and earned RC a corner. Will Demus then sent in a ball from the corner arc that found the head of Carter Laatsch who nestled the ball into the lower left corner of the goal to put the Maroons on the board in the 28th minute. 

• Roanoke doubled their leave with less than two minutes before the half after Logan Lavinder won RC a corner. Keegan Peat sent an in swinging ball in that found its way over the keeper and into the goal for an Olympico goal. 

• Washington College scored in the 70th minute but the Roanoke defense was able to shut down the Shoremen to secure the victory. 

Notes and Notables 

• Carter Laatsch's goal was the third of his career while Keegan Peat's goal was his first as a Maroon. 

• Freshman Will Demus's assist off the corner was the first of his young career. 

• Justin Hill and Austin Briggs made their first career starts in the contest. 

• Peat, Demus, Logan Lavinder, Parker Laatsch, William Gardiner, Dane Christensen, and Grey Morris all recorded their first career appearances for RC. 

• Denzel Marufu and Aidan McHugh split time in goal with Marufu posting two saves and McHugh recording three. 

Up Next 
The Maroons round out their weekend in the Old-Line State with their second game of the Athey Cup on Sunday (Aug. 31). They are set to square off with Stevenson at 11:00am that day.
