Sophomores show out to help Roanoke advance to semifinal

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team will be moving on to the semifinals after taking down Bridgewater 20-3 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

How It Happened 

  • Bridgewater struck first but Roanoke responded with a five-goal run before the Eagles tallied another to make it 5-2 at the end of the first. 

  • RC then came out and dominated in the second quarter, holding Bridgewater scoreless and tallying seven more to make it 12-2 at the half. 

  • The Maroons held strong in the second half taking an 8-1 advantage over the thirty minutes to bring the score to its final. 

Notes and Notables 

  • The sophomores made their impact on the evening, accounting for 16 of Roanoke's 25 points in the game. They also accounted for 16 of the 21 ground balls and eight of the 13 caused turnovers. 

  • Raegan Becker and Zoe Blair led the way with six points each. Becker set a new career high in points with her five goals and one assist while Blair racked up three goals and three assists. 

  • Liza Fergusson set a new career mark in ground balls with her team leading five in the contest. 

  • Jordan Wheeler and Becker were right behind Fergusson, racking up four ground balls. 

  • Fergusson and Wheeler both had three caused turnovers which is a new career mark for Wheeler. 

  • Roanoke had the advantage in shots, 37-11, ground balls, 21-11, and draw controls, 15-12.
