The Short story:Â Â The Roanoke College softball team got two outstanding pitching performances and the offense broke out Tuesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) sweep of visiting Eastern Mennonite University.
Seniors
Lindsay Gedro and
Maggie McCray combined to allow just one run on the day and the offense brought 13 runs around to score in the final six innings of play.Â
How it happened (Game 1):
*Neither team could score until the Maroons struck for four in the bottom of the sixth.
*
Kassidy Lancos walked to open the frame, and
Madison Cooke beat the throw on an attempted sacrifice bunt for a single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and
Madison Courts followed with a sacrifice fly.
Shaniya Lewis singled and
Molly Epperson brought another run home on a groundout.
Carsyn Michaels belted a home run to provide two insurance runs.
*The first two Royal runners reached base in the seventh inning, but Gedro got out of the jam unscathed to complete her complete-game shutout.
Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Gedro struck out five to earn her seventh win of the season, allowing seven hits and two walks.
*Lewis and Michaels each finished 2-3.
*Aspen Jones was 3-3 for the Royals.Â
How it happened (Game 2):
*After an EMU home run in the third, Roanoke countered with seven runs in the bottom half of the frame. A
Madison Courts three-run triple and RBI doubles from
Haleigh Vaughan and Michaels highlighted the inning.
*RC walked off with the win with two runs in the fifth.

Leah Butts and
Erin Gorschboth each had two hits.
*Lancos, Cooke and Lewis had a hit and a walk apiece.
*McCray gave up just three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts to up her record to 9-7 on the season.
