Roanoke soars above Lynchburg in road conference matchup

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team overcame a first quarter deficit to dominate Lynchburg for the remaining three quarters and grab a 20-10 ODAC win.

How It Happened 

  • It was a back and forth first quarter that saw Roanoke down 5-4 going into the second. 

  • The Maroons had a fire lit under them in the second though. They went on a seven-goal run and only gave up one to take an 11-6 lead into the break. 

  • Roanoke kept their foot on the gas in the second half, outscoring Lynchburg 9-4 to grab the 20-10 victory. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Sophomore Maddie McDonald reset her single game career high in goals and points for the second time this season with her seven on the night. Her previous mark was six in each category, which she tallied against Randolph-Macon in March. 

  • Grace Koutouzis joined McDonald at seven points in the game after tallying three goals and four assists. Koutouzis currently leads the ODAC in total points with 83 so far this season. 

  • Zoe Blair added four goals to her season tally in the game. Blair now has seven games this season with at least a hat trick of goals. 

  • Raegan Becker rounded out the multi-goal scorers with a trio of her own, recording one in each of the first three quarters. 

  • Harrison's stat line for the night also contained a team leading four ground balls and two caused turnovers. The senior also picked up three draw controls.

  • Regan Tharaldson was effective in the draw circle yet again, winning eight draw controls. 

  • McDonald was close behind Tharaldson with seven draw controls. 

  • Lili Riley also had a solid defensive performance, logging three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  

  • Brooke Morrow added a trio of ground balls to match her career mark. 

  • RC led in shots, 37-24, ground balls, 14-6, and draw controls, 18-16, in the contest.
