No. 5 Va. Wesleyan takes two from Roanoke Softball

The Facts:
Scores: Virginia Wesleyan 9, Roanoke 2; Va. Wesleyan 4, Roanoke 1

Location: Virginia Beach Va.

The Short story:  The Roanoke College softball team dropped both ends of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader at No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan University Sunday, 9-2 and 4-1. The Maroons led game two against the ODAC frontrunner in the sixth inning before the home team rallied.   

How it happened (Game 1):
*The Marlins scored one run in the first and four in the second to take early control and put the game out of reach with three more in the fourth.
*Haleigh Vaughan doubled in a Maroon run in the fourth and Samantha Rice plated a run in the sixth with a single.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Erin Gorschboth walked twice in the contest.
*Baylee Compton tossed 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run.
*Mackenzie Myers was 3-4 with a double and four runs scored for VWU.

How it happened (Game 2):
*Senior Maggie McCray kept the Marlins off the scoreboard for the first five innings and Roanoke pushed a run across in the top of the sixth. Kassidy Lancos hit a one-out single and Carsyn Michaels later brought a run home with a two-out single.
*VWU scored four in the bottom of the sixth and RC went down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
McCray allowed just one hit over her five innings, giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts.
*Michaels had two hits.
*Lauren Bible threw a complete game for the Marlins (28-1-1/14-0 ODAC), allowing just one run, four hits and no walks.

Up Next:
*The Maroons (14-14/5-7 ODAC) face Randolph-Macon College Monday at 1:30 p.m. in another conference twinbill.
