The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team swept its second-straight doubleheader Saturday, taking two non-conference games from Southern Virginia University, 3-2 and 4-2.

How it happened (Game 1):
*The Knights scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
*Madison Cooke hit a one-out single in the sixth, followed by a Leah Butts single. The two runners advanced on a wild pitch and came home on a Kassidy Lancos grounder to shortstop that was mishandled to tie the game.
*The Maroons took advantage of two So. Virginia miscues to bring home the winning run with one out in the seventh.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*Lindsay Gedro earned the win, tossing three innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts. Baylee Compton allowed just one earned run in four innings as the starter in the circle, striking out four.
* Erin Gorschboth was 2-2 with a walk and a stolen base and Haleigh Vaughan went 2-3.

How it happened (Game 2):
*Samantha Rice hit a sacrifice fly in the second to give RC a 1-0 lead.
*After an SVU unearned run in the fifth, Lancos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home a run.
*The Knights scored in the sixth but again Roanoke answered. Shaniya Lewis brought home a run with a ground ball and Vaughan plated an insurance run with a single.

Inside the numbers (Game 2):
*
Maggie McCray struck out 11 in her six innings to earn the win, allowing just one earned run, three hits and two walks. Gedro again closed out the game, recording all three outs in the seventh to pick up the save.
*Molly Epperson and Madison Cooke each went 2-3 and Vaughan had a hit and a walk.

Up Next:
*The Maroons (6-4) host the University of Pitt Bradford next Saturday at 1 p.m. in another non-conference doubleheader.
