Maroons rack up five home runs in first weekend of ODAC play

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team got off on the right foot in conference play on Saturday as they won the first game, 12-7, and came back to tie the second, 6-6, at Bridgewater. 

Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 12, Bridgewater 7 
Records: Roanoke (8-5, 1-0), Bridgewater (7-5, 0-1) 
Location: Bridgewater, Va. (Bridgewater Baseball Field) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • Both squads woke up their offenses in the middle innings with the sides swapping three runs each in the fourth and Roanoke tallying four to Bridgewater's two in the fifth. RC then added three more runs in the final two innings to take a firm grasp on the win. 

  • Thomas Burgess grabbed his second win of the season after coming on to pitch five innings of relief. Burgess allowed just one run on six hits in his outing. 

  • Hayden Giordano joined Coogan, Galloway, and Murphy in having a multi-hit game. All four of them tallied two hits. 

  • Parker Stallard drew a season high three walks. That mark also tied his career high as a Maroon. 

  • RC hit a season high three home runs in the game. Galloway hit his first of the season and of his career. Murphy hit the other two homers making it Murphy's first multi-home run game of his career.

Records: (8-5-1, 1-0-1), Bridgewater (7-5-1, 0-1-1) 

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • The second game of the day was called after eleven innings due to darkness. 

  • After going down 6-0, Roanoke started to mount their comeback in the seventh, by capitalizing on Bridgewater's mistakes. Liam Murphy homered in the seventh to make it 6-4. Kyle Moshier then got in on the long ball action in the ninth to knot the score. 

  • It was Murphy's third home run of the day and fifth of the season. 

  • Moshier's home run was his first of the season. 

  • Murphy had a team leading three RBIs, with Moshier adding two, and Corey Coogan tallying the other.
