How It Happened

  • CNU jumped out to an early lead after tagging the Maroons for five runs in the first three innings.

  • RC started to get the bats warmed up as they made it through the lineup the second time, tallying two runs in the fourth.

  • Roanoke then exploded offensively in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of bases loaded situations. Nate Prince capped off the seven run inning with a grand slam to put the Maroons on top 9-5.

  • The Captains knotted it up at nine in the bottom of the fifth but RC pushed back with three runs over the next two innings.

  • CNU tried to match Roanoke, scoring a run in the seventh and the ninth but Isaac Brooks was able to shut them down in the bottom of the ninth to seal the victory.

Notes and Notables

  • Junior Nate Prince's grand slam was his first career home run and set him a new single game career high in RBIs at four.

  • Tyler Galloway was right behind Prince with three RBIs which was also a new single game career high for the sophomore. He is now at four multi-RBI games so far this season.

  • Alec Jones rounded out the RBIs with the first of his career on his first career hit in the fifth inning. Jones made the first start of his career at third base in the game as well.

  • Coogan topped the squad in hits with three while Kyle Moshier, Danny Ferguson, and Galloway followed him up with two each. It was Ferguson's first multi-hit game of his young career.

  • Freshman pitcher Nick Capps joined his fellow Maroons in reaching career milestones as he tallied his first win in the contest.

  • Gavin Allanach gave up two hits but pitched an otherwise clean inning, striking out one in the bottom of the eighth.

  • Isaac Brooks earned his second save of the year after getting out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth. He is now just one save away from tying the program record in career saves.
