McCray strikes out 17 in game one as RC softball splits with Randolph

The Facts:
Scores: Roanoke 5, Randolph 0; Randolph 7, Roanoke 0
Location: Salem, Va – Moyer Complex

The Short story:  Senior Maggie McCray broke her own school record for strikeouts in a game with 17 Sunday as the Roanoke College softball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader with Randolph College.

McCray struck out 15 batters on March 4 against the University of Mary Washington to claim the school record for strikeouts in a game, which stood for less than a month.

How it happened (Game 1):
*McCray recorded her first seven outs via strikeout and struck out three batters in the first, second and fourth frames and two each in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
*The Maroons loaded the bases in the fourth and pushed across the game's first run on a Molly Epperson groundout.
*RC provided McCray more cushion than she'd need with a four-run fifth inning. The big blow was a Jocelyne Rinker three-run double.

Inside the numbers (Game 1):
*McCray allowed just two hits and two walks with up her record to 7-3 on the season and notch the second shutout of the year.
*Rinker and Samantha Rice each had two hits.
*Carsyn Michaels had a hit and a walk and Mikayla Gilmore drew three walks. Kassidy Lancos was walked twice.

How it happened (Game 2):
*The WildCats scored four in the second, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Inside the numbers (Game 2)
*Austyn Moran allowed just five hits to earn a shutout victory for Randolph (5-19/4-4 ODAC).
*Adriana Rivera had a triple for Roanoke.
*Lindsay Gedro threw five innings out of the bullpen, allowing only one earned run.

Up Next:
*The Maroons (14-10/5-3) host Bridgewater College Saturday and Christopher Newport University Sunday.
