Koutouzis and McDonald help Maroons overpower Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - Career days from Grace Koutouzis and Maddie McDonald helped the Roanoke College women's lacrosse team to a 20-7 road ODAC victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday.

How It Happened 

  • Roanoke came out firing, going on a 7-0 run to kick off the game. It was 8-3 after the first quarter. 

  • RC then allowed just two goals to Randolph-Macon in the second and tallied six of their own to increase the advantage to 14-5 at the half. 

  • The Maroons gave up just one goal to RMC in each of the final two quarters and scored five more to bring the score to final. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Grace Koutouzis had a new career high in points with 11 in the game. That puts her sixth in single game points, tying Gina Valles' total against Randolph-Macon in 2010. Koutouzis became the eighth player in program history to reach the 250-point mark during this week's contests.

  • Koutouzis' eight assists is the third highest single game total in program history, tying Jenn Schwechheimer's 2019 mark against Ferrum. Her eight helpers were also a new career high for Koutouzis. 

  • Maddie McDonald got in on the career high fun, tallying six goals for the first time in a game. The sophomore needed was a perfect 6-6 in shots on goal in the contest. 

  • Jordan Wheeler topped the squad in draw controls with seven. Koutouzis was right behind her with six. 

  • Tracey Benzing was the only other Roanoke player to record multiple goals. The midfielder had two goals and an assist in the game. 

  • Sydney Harrison, Addison Widmer, and Sydney Winpigler accounted for the other three goals while Widmer also dished out a helper.
     
  • Harrison's goal was her 100 career point. She has tallied 74 goals and 26 assists to reach the milestone.
  • Goalie Kendall Todd made three saves and had two ground balls in the win. 

  • RC had the upper hand in shots, 27-19, shots on goal 19-5, and draw controls 18-13. RMC picked up more ground balls though, 14 to Roanoke's seven.
