Baseball explodes offensively to secure two wins over EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team exploded for 30 combined runs in their double header to take the weekend sweep of Eastern Mennonite. 
 
Game 1 Information 
Roanoke 16, Eastern Mennonite 13 
Records: Roanoke (10-9-1, 3-2-1), Eastern Mennonite (6-10, 1-5) 
Location: Harrisonburg, Va. (Royals Field) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • EMU struck first in the bottom of the second, but RC responded with five in the top of the third. The Maroons went on to score in each of the next six innings to finish off the game. 

  • Hayden Giordano hit for the cycle for the first time in his career. The sophomore had a career high of five hits and was one shy of his career mark with his five RBIs. Giordano's two home runs made it the first multi-home run game of his career and brought his season total to three. He also also tallied three runs. 
     
  • Thomas Burgess earned his third win of the year, going six innings and striking out five. 

  • Freshman Nick Capps got his first career save after working three innings.

  • Nate Prince was right behind with four hits and three runs. Corey Coogan also recorded three runs on top of his three hits. 

  • Kyle Moshier and Ken McKeever also had three hits. McKeever's single in the fourth was the first of his Roanoke career. His trio of hits also marks his first multi-hit game. 

  • Parker Stallard tied a career high with four RBIs off his grand slam in the third inning while Moshier's four RBIs was a new career mark.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • Roanoke kept their offense rolling and scored in all but one inning to make their mark and secure the sweep in game two. 

  • Trevor Orth advanced to 3-0 on the season after striking out two in three innings of work and not allowing a baserunner. 

  • Isaac Brooks earned his third save of the campaign to tie the program record in career saves with 10. 

  • Colin Benson made his first career appearance, coming in the ninth inning off the bench. 

  • Hayden Giordano and Corey Coogan upped their RBI totals for the day with three in game two. Giordano also had three walks while Coogan had three stolen bases, a new single game high for the senior.
