Roanoke comes from behind to defeat Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team added another conference win to their résumé on Tuesday as they came from behind to take down Averett, 13-9.

How It Happened 

  • After surrendering five runs in the first inning, RC exchanged two runs with Averett in the second. 

  • The Maroons then had a 3-1 scoring edge in the third to make before adding a tally in the fourth to make the deficit just two runs. 

  • Roanoke was able to tie it at 8-8 in the seventh before the sides made it 9-9 in the eighth. 

  • RC took advantage of free bases in the ninth to go up 13-9 before Hayden Giordano shut down Averett in the bottom of the inning to secure the road win. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Parker Stallard topped the squad offensively with three hits, two RBIs, and two runs. Stallard hit his third home run of the season in the third inning. 

  • Nate Prince and Danny Ferguson were right behind Stallard with two hits, two RBIs, and two walks each. Prince also added four runs while Ferguson had one. 

  • Tucker Schiavoni added two RBIs on his second inning homer, his first long ball of the year. 

  • Hayden Giordano picked up his second win on the mound. He threw two innings and struck out three while allowing just one run. 

  • Mason Roy and Isaac Brooks put in solid outings from the bullpen as well. Together they allowed just seven base runners, one run, and struck out three over 5.2 innings.
