Maroon Softball Drops two in Tennessee

The Facts:
Scores: Maryville 5, Roanoke 4; Rhodes 11, Roanoke 5
Location: Maryville, Tenn.; MC Softball Complex

The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team dropped two games Sunday against Rhodes and Maryville Colleges in non-conference games hosted at Maryville.

How it happened (Maryville):
*Roanoke opened a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Carsyn Michaels led off with a single and Shaniya Lewis followed with a double. The Maroons scored on a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly and a groundout.
*Following a Maryville run in the third, Roanoke countered with an RBI single from Erin Gorschboth.
*The Scots plated one in the fourth, two in the fifth and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Inside the numbers (Maryville):
*Gorschboth had two hits and Kassidy Lancos walked three times.
*Brecca Williams had three hits for Maryville.

How it happened (Rhodes):
*The Maroons again took an early lead, 5-0 after two innings. Madison Courts drove in two as part of a three-run first inning and Courts came through again in the second frame with a two-run single.
*Rhodes scored all of its 11 runs after the third inning.

Inside the numbers (Maryville):
*Courts finished the game 3-3 with four RBI.
*Michaels went 2-2 with a walk.
*Jasmyn Stanley had three hits for Rhodes (4-7).

Up Next:
*The Maroons (2-4) return to the Moyer Complex Tuesday at 1 p.m., hosting the University of Mary Washington in a non-conference doubleheader.
