Roanoke falls short against #6/#11 Washington & Lee

SALEM, Va. - After coming back to draw it even at the half, the Roanoke College women's lacrosse team ultimately ended up falling in a close ODAC game with the #6/#11 Washington & Lee Generals.

How It Happened 

  • W&L opened the scoring with two goals in the first, but Tracey Benzing buried one to cut the lead. 

  • After being down 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, Roanoke outscored the Generals 5-3 in the second to make it even at 6-6 before the half. 

  • W&L shut down many of RC's opportunities in the second half, holding the Maroons to just two goals to help bring the score to final. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Midfielder Tracey Benzing notched the third hat-trick of her career and the first of the season to top the Roanoke scorers. 

  • Sydney Harrison had her first multi-goal game of the season with two tallies on the night. 

  • Addison Widmer had two assists in the contest while Blair also recorded a helper. 

  • Freshman Lili Riley had four of the Maroons' eight caused turnovers, a new career high for the defender. 

  • RC had the slight advantage in ground balls, 16-15, while W&L had the upper hand in shots 28-23. The sides split the draw controls with 12 apiece.

Roanoke continues their streak of home games at Kerr Stadium with another ODAC matchup, this time on Saturday (Mar. 22) against Bridgewater. That game is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
