Baseball walks off Ferrum to take ODAC victory

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team found themselves back in the win column in ODAC play as they walked off Ferrum in extra innings to take a 7-6 victory.

How It Happened 

  • Roanoke kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of Ferrum's error to go up 3-0. 

  • The Panthers scored one in both the fourth and fifth innings before tallying a trio in the top of the seventh to go up 5-3. 

  • RC answered right back in the bottom of the seventh though to make it 6-5. 

  • Ferrum scored in the bottom of the eighth to make it 6-6 which would eventually force extra innings. 

  • With a man on base in the bottom of the tenth, the Maroons scored on an error to put the game to rest. 

Notes and Notables 

  • This was Roanoke's third win in four extra-inning games and fourth walk-off victory of the season. 

  • Hayden Giordano made the first pitching appearance of his career after getting the start at third. Giordano came in to relieve and tossed three innings, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out two. 

  • Corey Coogan led the squad offensively tallying three hits and three RBIs. 

  • Parker Stallard and Giordano recorded the other two hits for RC, with Stallard roping a double and Giordano posting the only other RBI. 

  • Finn Lamb threw the longest outing of his career, going 6.1 innings in the game. 

Up Next 
Roanoke heads back on the road this weekend as they make the trip up I-81 to Eastern Mennonite on Saturday (Mar. 22). The double header ODAC action is slated to begin at 12:00 pm.
