Maroons open ODAC play with 22-0 shutout of Averett

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team had many career firsts as they opened ODAC play with a 22-0 shutout of Averett in their home opener.

How It Happened 

  • Roanoke scored just 45 seconds into the game and was able to keep rolling from there. Raegan Becker recorded a hat trick while three other Maroons tallied a pair of goals to help put RC up 10-0 at the end of the first. 

  • It was more of the same in the second as Roanoke pushed the advantage to 15-0 before the half. 

  • Roanoke kept up the pace in the second half as many Maroons marked career firsts to bring the score to its final, 22-0. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Roanoke allowed just two shots in the contest, the fewest since their last shutout in 2022. That game was a 25-0 victory over Randolph. 

  • Addison Widmer recorded a career high four assists, making it the first multi-assists game of her career. 

  • Sarah Brisson (2 g, 1a), Sydney Winpigler (1g, 2a), and Audrey Leith (1g, 1a) rounded out the multi-point scorers. It was the first career goal, assist, and points for Leith as well as the first two career assists for Winpigler. 

  • Barnhorst made the only save on the game for Roanoke in the fourth quarter, also a first of her career. 

  • Kendall Todd gets the win after starting in cage for the Maroons. Amber Stallings then came in for the second and third quarters before Barnhorst finished it off in the fourth. 

  • Roanoke had the upper hand in shots, 41-2, ground balls, 22-9, and draw controls, 15-10.

RC is back at it tomorrow (Mar. 16) to take on SUNY Geneseo at Kerr Stadium in a 2:00 pm matchup.
