The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team split two games Saturday against Rhodes and Maryville Colleges in non-conference games hosted at Maryville.
How it happened (Rhodes):
*The contest was tied until the bottom of the fifth, when Rhodes hit back-to-back doubles to take a 2-0 lead.

Jocelyne Rinker led off the seventh with a double and
Molly Epperson brought the run home with a one-out single. Two RC flyouts ended the game.
Inside the numbers (Rhodes):

Lindsay Gedro was the tough-luck loser, allowing eight hits and one walk over six innings with two strikeouts.
*Rinker had two hits.
*Katie Bejian went 3-3 for Rhodes (2-7). Â
How it happened (Maryville):
*Rinker broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with a solo home run to left field.
*The Scots scored two in the fifth, but Roanoke answered with two in the top of the sixth, one from a
Haleigh Vaughan single.
*Rinker struck again in the seventh, driving in an insurance run with a single.

Baylee Compton earned the save, working out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh.
Inside the numbers (Maryville):

Maggie McCray earned the win, striking out 10 in six innings.
*Rinker and Vaughan each had two hits.
*Brecca Williams was 3-4 for Maryville (1-7).
