Maroons rally in second game to split Sunday doubleheader

SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team split their home opener with Dickinson, taking a 5-2 win in the second game of the Sunday double-header. 
 
Game 1 Information 
Dickinson 12, Roanoke 9 
Records: Dickinson (1-0, 0-0), Roanoke (3-3, 0-0) 
Location: Salem, Va. (Salem Memorial Ballpark) 

Notes & Notables 

  • It was a high scoring first four innings, Dickinson was able to put separation between themselves and the Maroons in the later innings. 

  • Liam Murphy led the way offensively with three hits and two runs batted in. 

  • Palmer Griffin came in for relief and pitched 2.2 innings on scoreless ball, only allowing a hit and two walks while tallying a strikeout.

Notes and Notables 

  • Dickinson went up 2-0 in the first half of the game, but Roanoke had a big four run seventh inning with another run in the eighth to earn the doubleheader split. 

  • Liam Murphy topped the squad in RBIs with two. Nate Prince and Galloway had the other two RBIs in the contest. 

  • Prince also had the team's only two walks in the game. 

  • Owen Wojciechowski allowed five hits, one runs, and struck out two in his third start of season. 

  • Isaac Brooks came in to relieve Wojciechowski and put in four scoreless innings. Brooks only allowed two hits, a walk, and a HBP while recording a strikeout to get this second victory of the season.
