Maroons sweep William Peace on Sunday

CARY, N.C - The Roanoke College baseball team completed a Sunday double-header sweep of William Peace. The Maroons unleashed the offense for a 13-0 victory in a seven-inning game 1 and pulled out a 3-2 win in game 2. 
 
Game 1 Information

Notes & Notables 

  • Roanoke started hot, scoring three runs in the first inning. They kept it going in the third, tacking on four more. RC continued their every other inning explosions in the fifth with five more runs. Corey Coogan then singled in the sixth to add the final tally. 

  • Junior Trevor Orth got his first win of the season, pitching five scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit while striking out three. 

  • Dylan Bonzon, Fehlner, and Schiavoni were the only Maroons to have a multi-hit game. 

  • RC took advantage of free bases in the game, registering seven walks and stealing five bases. 

  • Freshman Ray Kano made his Roanoke debut, putting in an inning of work on the mound while striking out one and only allowing one hit.

Notes and Notables 

  • Roanoke struck first in the top of the seventh off a Jack Fehlner single before William Peace answered back with two in the bottom of the inning. Tucker Schiavoni then evened the score on a sacrifice fly in the eighth before Kyle Moshier drove home the game-winning run in a double in the ninth. 

  • Owen Wojciechowski recorded 10 strikeouts in his 5.2 innings of work. He only gave up five hits and no runs in his outing. 

  • Wojciechowski became just the third Maroon in the past decade to register double digit Ks in a game. Jackson Murphy did it twice in 2023 and John Ruhlman did it once in 2015 and 2016. 

  • Corey Coogan, Moshier, and Fehlner all had a multi-hit game, tallying two each.
     
  • Thomas Burgess grabbed his first win of the season and of his career in the game.
  • Isaac Brooks pitched a clean ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season and secure the win for RC.

Roanoke finishes off its season opening road trip in Tennessee on Tuesday (Feb. 18) for a 3:00 pm contest against Maryville.
