Orban breaks program record as Roanoke competes at JDL Early Bird Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C - Freshman Nathaniel Orban became the first runner in Roanoke College indoor track & field history to run under 15 minutes in the 5000m race as the Maroons competed at the JDL Early Bird Invitational on Sunday.

Notes and Notables 

  • Orban also set the program record in the event with his time of 14:58.87. He dethroned Harrison Toney who set the previous record in 2016. Orban also becomes the first Maroon to record a sub-15 indoor 5000m time. 

  •  Blosser took second in the race with a time of 15:27.14. He moves into fourth all-time in RC's indoor 5k record books. 

  • Senior Daniel Graham placed seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds. 

  • Maya Herndon ran her first collegiate 3k race, clocking in at 10:56.98. Her time puts her eighth all-time in the program record books. 

  • Jackson Coombes, Elias Ammon, and Gabe Ramirez took on the men's 3k race. Coombes paced Roanoke with an 11th place finish with a time of 8:53.22 to move into seventh in the record books. Ammon raced an 8:59.50 for 17th while Ramirez ran 9:11.67 for 21st. 

  • Junior Allie Gallaher ran a personal best mile of 5:44.78 on the women's side for 14th place. 

  • Freshmen Beau Brebner and Aaron Massey tackled the men's mile race. Brebner finished seventh with a time of 4:30.37 while Massey took 11th with a time of 4:35.11. 

  • David Gipson bested his season opening distance of 12.55m in the triple jump by recording a leap of 12.63m on the afternoon. He also moves into ninth in RC's record books with his mark. He also competed in the long jump recording a distance of 5.78m, also besting his Liberty Kickoff distance.
     
  • Amir Spencer and Colby Thompson also competed in the long jump. Spencer was the highest placing MAroon with a distance of 5.91m while Thompson recorded a leap of 5.80m.

Up Next 
RC will not race again until the new year when they host the Finn Pincus Invite on Jan. 16-17.
