Roanoke falls in ODAC opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Roanoke College women's basketball dropped their first ODAC contest of the season to Guilford on Wednesday night.

How It Happened 

  • The sides jockeyed for the lead through the first five minutes with Guilford gaining a narrow edge in the final five to go up 17-13 over the Maroons. 

  • RC played from behind most of the second quarter but eventually drew level at 24 a side with three minutes to go in the period. The Quakers however jumped right back out, taking a 33-26 advantage into halftime. 

  • After going down by 10 at one point in the third, the Maroons roared back thanks to a few timely three pointers and a 16-point quarter by Paige Breuer to take a 48-47 lead. 

  • It was another close quarter in the fourth. RC was down by just one with a minute and a half to go but were unable to convert while Guilford added another bucket to bring the score to its final. 

Notes and Notables 

  • Breuer was just one shy of a career high with her team leading 22 points on the night. She went 8-16 on field goals and was 4-7 from beyond the arc. 

  • Alicea Farmer recorded her second consecutive double-double, posting 15 points and a team high 12 rebounds. 

  • Ashley Fowler was the other Maroon to hit double digits, tallying 12 points. She also led the squad in defensive rebounds with seven. 

  • Mariah Cain wasn't far behind Fowler in rebounds with six in the contest. Cain also led the team in steals with two.

RC continues their week of December ODAC play as they travel up I-81 to RV Shenandoah on Saturday for a 4:30 pm matchup.
