Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Maroons' strong start erased in second half by Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Roanoke College women's basketball team couldn't find an answer for Catholic's pressure in the second half, ultimately falling to the Cardinals 80-79.

Game Information
Catholic 80, Roanoke 79
Records: Catholic (6-2, 4-0), Roanoke (3-4, 0-2)
Location: Washington, D.C. (Franny Murray Court)

How It Happened

  • The Maroons struck first, scoring the first five points and then got hot from beyond the arc to go up 24-10 by the end of the first.

  • While RC cooled off comparatively to the first period from three, they kept their foot in the gas. Roanoke never let their lead get below double digits in the period and were able to extend it to 47-30 going into the break.

  • It was a slower third quarter for the Maroons as momentum started to swing in favor of Catholic, but they still had an 11-point advantage going into the fourth.

  • Catholic turned the corner on Roanoke in the fourth quarter though outscoring RC 31-19. While Paige Breuer hit a logo three at the buzzer, it wasn't enough to pull the Maroons back on top.

Notes and Notables

  • Ashley Fowler led the squad in scoring as she tied her season high of 18 points.

  • Paige Breuer was right behind Fowler with 17 points, her second highest point total of the year. She went 6-10 in the game, including 5-6 from beyond the arc.

  • Snesarev dished out a team high four assists to add to her stat line.

  • Alicea Farmer led the Maroons in rebounding with five on the afternoon. Breuer and Moriah Tate were right behind with four boards each.
